I just got round to watching the podium ceremony from Laguna Seca,
where whoever was in charge of playing the winner's national antherm
started playing the Italian anthem instead of the Spanish one. It
played for 5~10 seconds or so, stopped and then the correct one was
played.

On the one hand, this was a simple mistake that could have been made
by anyone, anywhere. On the other, I can't imagine another country in
the world where such a mistake so closely matches its national
sterotype.

It's not like it's the first time.
ISTR Laguna Seca playing "Waltzing Matilda" for Corser at a WSB meeting.

On the other hand it was good to see a decent TV feed for a change.
Although the producer seemed to have been at the marching powder as he
couldn't stay on one shot for more than about 3 seconds.

I couldn't work out if Lorenzo was pissed off or just embarrassed.

Bit of both, I think.

This is a great photo of that happening. :-) Rossi's expression is
good.

when our (NZL) rowing 8 won the gold at Munich, the organisers didn't
have our national anthem, and played God Save the Queen.
